Network

Our network, which is one of the world’s largest IP networks, carries millions of call minutes annually on behalf of other communications companies. We also offer local data circuits that allow international network operators to provide connectivity between sites in Ireland and the rest of the world.

Managed services

One of our greatest strengths is our ability to offer tailored managed services to mobile operators. We have major contracts with Telefonica O2 Ireland, 3 Ireland, Vodafone Ireland and Coillte. But we don’t just provide them with traditional connectivity between their cell sites – our experienced team of radio, construction, estates and IP specialists offers fully managed services where we procure, design, build and manage all aspects of their network – allowing our customers to focus on their key strengths… serving their customers. Vodafone Ireland, as part of a landmark contract, selected BT to provide wholesale network services to underpin its business over a seven year period. As part of the agreement, we have invested (and continue to invest) significantly in building an advanced network infrastructure and improving broadband speeds in the Republic of Ireland. We are providing a platform for the delivery of up to 24Mbps broadband services to approximately two thirds of the Republic of Ireland’s available broadband lines by unbundling up to 60 exchanges.

Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland we are the leading wholesale provider and act as an agent for BT Wholesale and Openreach. We have local in-country expertise in NI and offer full support for local CPs.

In 2009 we won a contract with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) to upgrade the broadband infrastructure that serves businesses across Northern Ireland – in both urban and rural areas. This major network rollout, which is due to be completed by May 2011, will see a significant increase in broadband speeds experienced by businesses and will be available on an open, fair, wholesale basis – allowing other communications providers to benefit from selling leading edge broadband products.

Sustainability

At BT Ireland we are committed to contributing positively to society and to a sustainable future. Our corporate responsibility programmes focus primarily on Education & Skills, Digital Inclusion and the Environment. Our achievements are recognised – we received a President's Award from Chambers Ireland for our BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition.
